Demonstrated Project

Goal I of the Mission Document of the National Water Mission, inter-alia, envisages "Assessment of impact of climate change on water resource". The key strategies identified to achieve the above mentioned objectives are listed below:

  • Research and studies on all aspects related to impact of climate change on water resources including quality aspects of water resources with active collaboration of all research organizations working in the area of climate change.
  • Projection of the impact of climate change on water resources.   
  • Assessment of the impact of climate change on water.

National Water Mission has been extending financial assistance to R&D projects in various spheres of water sector including that of impact of climate change on water. Presently, NWM is funding a project titled "Hydro-geological assessment and socioeconomic implications of depleting water resources in Nainital Lakebeing implemented by Center for Ecological Development and Research (CEDAR), in collaboration with Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (IIT) and Forest Research institute (FRI), Dehradun. The project will be helpful in rejuvenation and restoration of lake as well as study the impact of climate change on Nainital Lake.

Another demonstrated project in which National Water Mission has been extending financial assistance is Irrigation Efficiency Improvement through On- Farm Water Management”  being implemented by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee.
