Collaboration with Tata Institute of Social Science

 

National Water Mission (NWM) has entered into PDF icon Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai to achieve Goal II of the identified goals of NWM. Goal II “Promotion of Citizen and State Action for Water Conservation, Augmentation and Preservation” inter alia, envisages sensitization, training and capacity building of Panchayati Raj Institutions, Urban Local Bodies, Water User Associations and other stakeholders in equitable and sustainable management of water resources with focus on water conservation, augmentation, preservation and efficient use.

As per the MOU, implementation of proposed activities are listed as given below:

1. To facilitate the empanelment of NGOs/field level agencies who would implement activities suggested in the list of substantive schemes recommended in the Mission document.

2. Evaluation of training modules, substantive and training capacities of Lead NGOs.

3. Oversight of the criteria and selection process of field NGOs based on the recommendations of the National Water Mission in collaboration with the Lead NGOs. This will    take in to        account the size, area coverage, thematic, organizational and financial capacity.

4. Site visits to be conducted for field verification by a panel of multidisciplinary consultants with the domain of expertise in water issues.

For enabling NGOs (in the country) to undertake training and capacity building activities for multiple stake holders in the integrated water resource management, a draft guidelines and specific and terms and conditions, submitted by TISS, is under process at NWM.

A documentation of existing good practices and literature on water conservation (covering agriculture, domestic and industrial use), water augmentation (through recycling of industrial waste water and municipal sewerage, drip irrigation, sprinkler irrigation, PIM, etc.) and water preservation (through water efficient mechanisms in domestic use, redesign of hand pumps to store water in small tanks, etc.) has been prepared through TISS.
