Promotion of traditional system of water conservation.

Expeditious implementation of programme  for repair, renovation and restoration (RRR) of water bodies in areas/situations vulnerable to climate change:

A total of 3341 water bodies were taken up for restoration in 12 States, out of which 2501 water bodies have been completed upto March, 2015. A total central grant amounting to Rs 917.259 crore was released to the States for completion of work on these water bodies till March, 2015. An irrigation potential of nearly 1.42 lakh hectares has been restored. For expediting the completion of backlog projects, an amount of Rs 105.049 crore was released. A total of 1057 water bodies at an estimated cost of Rs 830.6659 crore in 8 States have been included under RRR schemes during XII Plan. A total grant amounting to Rs 154.776 crore has been released to the States for taking up works of these water bodies during XII plan.
