Conservation and preservation of wetland

The MoEF&CC has identified conservation and sustainable use of wetlands as one of the key areas under natural resources management. Under the national wetlands programme of the MoEF&CC, 115 wetlands (including 25 wetlands of international importance under Ramsar Convention) have been identified for conservation. Similarly, 40 lakes and 38 mangrove and coral reef areas have been identified for conservation under the National Lake Conservation Plan and National Programe on Mangroves and Coral Reefs during the XII Five Year Plan. Status is being monitored through Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEF&CC).
