Systematic approach for coping with floods
Key areas under this Strategy are as follows
i) Mapping of areas likely to experience floods, establishing hydraulic and hydrological models and developing comprehensive schemes for flood management & reservoir sedimentation.
ii) Encourage and enforce flood plain zoning in flood prone rivers
The Expert Committee for “Scientific Assessment of Flood Prone Areas in India” constituted by the Ministry of Water Resources, RD & GR, vide OM No. 5/19/2012-Ganga/2709-30 dated 20.07.2012, decided during its second meeting held on 27.06.2013 to Constitute Committees for each State. These Committees shall identify, demarcate and classify the flood prone areas. the composition of the Regional Committee is as under:

The progress of work of these committees is being monitored by Central Water Commission.
